Oral examination

In order to keep your teeth healthy and attractive, we recommend that you have them checked twice a year. During the check-up, the dentist will examine whether you have any cavities or gum problems. He or she will also check whether your fillings and crowns still fit properly. Sometimes it is necessary to make an X-ray.

Prophylaxis

The gums are the foundation of your teeth and it is therefore important that they remain healthy. The gums can become inflamed without you noticing. You will usually notice this by, for example, bleeding easily when brushing. This problem is called gingivitis.

Plaque and tartar are removed during a dental cleaning. If gingivitis is not treated or not treated in time, it can lead to periodontitis: the bone and the gum around the teeth sink.

If you don’t do anything about the inflammation, the teeth will become loose after a while and you may even end up losing teeth. In case of advanced periodontitis, we work together with the periodontologist.

Sealing

In dentistry, sealing is a preventive treatment in which a layer of composite is applied to a tooth in the grooves of the chewing surface, with the aim of protecting the tooth from the development of cavities.

Overbite plate

The bite plate protects your teeth from the ongoing wear and tear caused by teeth grinding or clenching and aims to reduce pain at the jaw joint.

Radiology

Bite-wings

These are small overview photographs of the teeth. The dentist will take two pictures: one on the left and one on the right. These pictures show the top of your teeth, a part of the roots and the surrounding bone. Based on the pictures, the dentist will estimate your risk of cavities and other problems.

OPG

The OPG is a radiological image to assess the position of the teeth, wisdom teeth and jaw joint.

CBCT

Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) is a scan using X-rays. Using a CBCT scan, a three-dimensional image of the jaws and surrounding tissues can be made.

CBCT is used for planning to determine the position of the implants in the bone, as well as for endodontic treatment.

At Dens Optima, these X-ray machines are available.
